AYGF Pays Stakeholder Consultation Visit to the National Human Rights Commission

On the 30th July 2019, AYGF, the Africa Youth Growth Foundation visited The National Human Rights Commission.  We were received by Mr. Nasir Ladan mni, The Director of Human Rights Education and Promotion, and other officials.
An introduction was done, and the objectives of the project were mentioned to the commission. Inquiries were made on the provision of human rights to migrants and the extent to which these rights were protected, especially the rights of migrant workers. Also requested was information on any area gaps in the implementation of the rights of migrant workers.
Assurance was given that there are well-implemented laws in place that protects everyone living in Nigeria regardless of Nationality and that the National Human Rights Commission together with various stakeholders continues to monitor compliance with these laws. Also mentioned were plans to train MDAs on how to mainstream the rights of migrant workers.

AYGF CONSULTS THE NIGERIA LABOUR CONGRESS ON THE ONGOING PROJECT “EXTENSION OF LABOUR INSPECTION ACTIVITIES AND LABOUR LAW ENFORCEMENT TO SECTORS AND WORKPLACES WHERE MIGRANT WORKERS MAY BE PRESENT”

Africa Youth Growth Foundation paid an advocacy visit to the Nigeria Labour Congress at the Labour House in Abuja on the 23rd of July 2019.

AYGF was at Labour House to intimate the NLC on the EU-IOM funded project – “Extension of Labour Inspection Activity and Labour Law Enforcement to Sectors and Workplaces Where Migrant Workers May be Present”. AYGF and NLC discussed the issues around migrant workers and labour inspection services in the country, and they agreed to provide all support and information they have readily available on issues of Migrant workers in Nigeria.

AYGF Signs An MOU With IOM On A Project Titled “Extension Of Labour Inspection Activity And Labour Laws Enforcement To Sectors Or Workplaces Where Migrant Workers May Be Present”

On the 10th June 2019, AYGF, the Africa Youth Growth Foundation signed an MOU with the International Organization for Migration on a project designed to further strengthen the interventions being doled out in the migration sector in Nigeria.

The AYGF through the instrumentality of this project seeks to carry out baseline survey to ascertain the level of compliance and conformity of labour inspection activity and labour law enforcement in the country vis-à-vis the migrant workers in Nigeria and assess how that has impacted on the welfare and wellbeing of migrant workers in Nigeria in the context of implementation of and compliance with National Policy on Migration, National Policy on Labour Migration and other International Labour Conventions and Treaties while at the same time building the understanding and capacity of migrant workers in Nigeria on their rights, privileges and obligation.
